About the Event
Do you want real writing happening in your classroom? Then you need to know process.
We will examine each aspect of process: thinking, talking, planning, drafting, revising, editing and publishing. Each stage of process has skills and strategies that can be taught and practiced, building competence, independence and skill in your writers. We’ll look at process at the start of kindergarten and see how it changes and grows over grades until year six. We’ll look through lenses of revision to make this oh-so important and often misunderstood part of process more manageable and worthwhile. Process is an important part of a great writing classroom every day, across all purposes for writing.
As part of this course, we'll work through process ourselves - to know the highs and lows, the challenges and the triumphs of writing – and then go back to class with genuine knowledge of what it takes to write, and strategies we can use in class right away with our students.
Knowing that great writing pedagogy also includes the essential elements of the workshop, authors’ craft and conferencing, this course will touch on these aspects but only as they relate to process. (We offer in-depth courses covering each of those aspects, see our website for details and to register.)
This course is being offered on two dates – choose the date that best suits you to attend.
It is part of our Four Core Courses - sign up for all four and get a discount.
A discount also applies for 3+ people from the same school attending the same workshop, so come with your friends!
This course is suitable for all K-6 teachers and school leaders looking for practical strategies and tools to support a strong writing culture within their classrooms and school.
