About the Event
What makes great writing? A combination of qualities, from ideas and how we write about them, to conventions and presentation...and everything in between. This course picks these qualities apart, focusing on the skills and strategeis we can explicitly teach our students as they learn about the craft of writing and develop their own writer's voice.
We will use writing continuums aligned with v9 of the Australian Curriculum designed as a tool for teaching (but also useful for grading) which you can then take back to your school and use or amend, one for each purpose for writing. Using them will help you to build knowledge of how craft develops from K-6 within each quality of writing. The continuums can also be used to support writing interim assessments, PLC goal setting, but most importantly support planning that addresses each grade at their point of need, building on the previous years' learning.
We will look at writing samples and mentor texts to support teaching and learning, and also deepen understanding of the transferable qualities of imaginative, informative and persuasiuve writing.
This course is being offered on two dates – choose the date that best suits you to attend.
It is part of our Four Core Courses - sign up for all four and get a discount.
A discount also applies for 3+ people from the same school attending the same workshop, so come with your friends!
This course is suitable for all K-6 teachers and school leaders looking for practical strategies and tools to support a strong writing culture within their classrooms and school.
